Sulzer solutions have been selected for high-quality sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production in support of China’s carbon neutrality strategy. Made from renewable feedstocks, SAF meets rigorous aviation performance standards while cutting greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80%. The facility, based in Shandong, China, is expected to produce 500 000 tpy of SAF – enough to fuel over 4400 flights from Shanghai to Vancouver or Rome, but with a significantly reduced environmental impact.

Sulzer’s customised pump technology was selected by a prominent player in China’s chemical and energy industries to help meet the rising demand for eco-friendly aviation fuels. Sulzer is providing sets of customised pumps designed to reliably tolerate both high-pressure and high-temperature conditions for the necessary refinement of the low-carbon feedstocks.

Sulzer Executive Chairwoman, Suzanne Thoma, said: “We are proud to support our customer in reducing carbon emissions in one of the world’s fastest-growing markets. As a strategic enabler of essential industries, we strive to tie economic prosperity to sustainable growth and are delighted to see our technological expertise serve the transition towards more sustainable fuel options.”

Jan Lueder, Flow Division President at Sulzer added: “Our robust pump solutions are designed to meet the highest standards of efficiency in challenging industries. This partnership is a testament to our commitment to energy security and transition, delivering solutions that make a tangible impact on the environment and lead the way for tomorrow’s energy needs.”
