Topsoe’s advanced SynCOR™ solution enables mega-scale hydrogen production

Hydrocarbon Engineering,
SynCOR stands out in the realm of ultra-low carbon intensity technologies due to its high single-line capacity, OPEX savings, and efficiency. With a focus on economy of scale, SynCOR maximises single-line capacity, significantly reducing both capital and operating costs.
The technology employs advanced autothermal reforming (ATR) at a low steam-to-carbon ratio. Unlike traditional steam methane reforming, SynCOR's innovative approach involves the combustion of feed gas to generate heat for the reforming reaction, eliminating the need for tubular reforming. This allows for a significant reduction in steam addition, enhancing energy efficiency.
SynCOR operates at a steam-to-carbon ratio as low as 0.6, enabling larger single-train capacities and producing syngas with very low methane content, low H2/CO ratios, and high CO/CO2 ratios. This syngas is ideal for applications in ammonia, methanol, gas-to-liquid plants, and synfuel hubs.
"SynCOR represents a major milestone in hydrogen production technology," said Adam Kadhim, Product Line Director for Hydrogen and Syngas at Topsoe. "By delivering high conversion with one-step reforming and reducing the overall footprint and capital costs, SynCOR sets a new standard for efficiency in the industry. Our commitment to innovation ensures that our clients receive the most reliable and cost-effective solutions available."
