GlobalData: Asia to spearhead global upcoming oil and gas projects outlook by 2030

Asia continues to account for a major share of the global project pipeline, supported by ongoing investments in petrochemical plants, conventional refinery, transmission pipelines, and oil storage projects. Countries such as China and India remain key contributors to upcoming developments, particularly in downstream and petrochemical segment.

About half of the projects in the region are in the construction and commissioning stages. Approval and feasibility are the other major project stages, indicating many projects are also still in the early stages of the development.

The Middle East also maintains a strong project portfolio, again driven primarily by downstream investments. Petrochemical and refinery projects account for a significant share of developments under execution, while considerable investment in pipelines, gas processing, and storage infrastructure supports the region's long term expansion plans. Also, majority of projects in construction stage highlights the region's focus on project execution over the outlook period.

In North America, the US dominates project pipeline with majority of upcoming projects, accounting for more than 70% of the projects scheduled during 2026 to 2030. Most of the developments are advancing beyond the early planning stages. Midstream infrastructure, including LNG liquefaction facilities and transmission pipelines, and downstream segments including renewable refineries, and petrochemical plants remain key focus areas. Within the oil and gas value chain, these projects that have reached construction and commissioning, progressing towards commercial operations.
