Meridian selects Axens for Davis Refinery

Meridian Energy Group has announced that the company has finalised a license agreement with Axens North America, Inc. (Axens NA), an affiliated company of the IFP EN to define the underlying proprietary process technology for several of the refinery process unit operations, and grant a license to Meridian to implement the project using Axens NA's know how.

This announcement comes just two weeks after Meridian expanded its relationship with Vepica, USA as Meridian enters its engineering phase of the Davis Refinery, in preparation for the onset of construction once the Permit to Construct is awarded.

As is common with a project of this complexity, Axens NA will work closely with Vepica during the definition effort, and a great deal of the Axens work on the project will be performed under a process book supply agreement (PBSA) between Axens and Vepica. A kick off meeting with Axens and Vepica was held last month at Axens' offices in Princeton, New Jersey, which began the design of the project.

Meridian CEO William C. Prentice said, "In the defining of a principal process licensor and technology firm, Meridian had to identify a firm that could not only provide the most innovative and advanced refining technology, but one who could also ensure that these were commercially proven solutions. Axens is an industry leader and able to provide the best of both worlds, enabling the Davis Refinery to become the cleanest and most efficient refinery on the planet and set a new standard in liquid fuels technology. Furthermore, Meridian believes that the relationship that is being established with Axens will also involve long term collaboration between the firms on a wide range of future energy projects."

Christian Vaute, CEO of Axens North America, had this to say, "We were immediately impressed with Meridian and with Vepica's advanced approach to the Davis Refinery, and its demand to leverage the Best Available Control Technology. This aligns perfectly with the Axens mission to be a reference technology company in applications in refining, and with Meridian setting the new standard in emission controls, we knew we'd partnered with a true leader.
