National Community Action Foundation recognises weatherisation training site for new program
The National Community Action Foundation and ExxonMobil Corporation recognised the Association for Energy Affordability with a US$ 800 000 grant to establish a weatherisation training program. The grant is being used to prepare workers for careers in growing fields of weatherisation and energy efficiency. This is one of nine grants across eight states aimed at increasing the capability of Community Action Agencies for Weatherisation Assistance Program agencies serving areas with high concentrations of income eligible multifamily buildings.

The grant allows the Association for Energy Affordability to combine conventional classroom and field based learning tools with new media technology. The training curriculum addresses regional climate differences and national standards for multifamily auditors, construction managers. Program managers, and multifamily trainers. In partnership with national and local workforce agencies, AEA is helping local job developers and workforce organisations learn more about the skills job seekers need for careers in energy efficient buildings.

ExxonMobil and The Harris Foundation make national ‘Dream Tour’ stop in Denver
Former US Astronaut Bernard Harris gave students and teachers in Denver a first hand experience with the wonders of science, technology, engineering and mathematics when ‘The Dream Tour, presented by ExxonMobil’ made its fifth stop of 2010 on May 21st speaking to 350 students from Grant Beacon Middle School.

The tour is designed to encourage today’s middle school students to realise their potential and strive to acquire strong maths and science skills. The program included an interactive and inspirational program by Harris, a demonstration on space and engaging dialogue about achieving goals.
