American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM) President and CEO Chet Thompson has issued the following statement on the Researching Efficient Federal Improvements for Necessary Energy Refining (REFINER) Act (H.R. 3109), which is set for a vote in the House of Representatives:

“US refineries are a national security asset, producing more liquid fuels collectively than any other country. We thank Representative Latta and members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee for recognising the importance of the downstream energy sector and shining a light on how state and federal policies can impact both our ability to compete and thrive as well as our country’s military readiness. It would be to our nation’s detriment for more states to follow California’s footsteps with laws, taxes, and regulations that threaten US refining capacity and our country’s ability to meet the liquid fuel needs of American consumers, the US economy, the US military, and our allies,” said Chet Thompson, AFPM President and CEO.

The REFINER Act is sponsored by Representative Bob Latta (R-OH), Chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Energy Subcommittee, and Representative Neal Dunn (R-FL), Vice Chairman of the Energy and Commerce Committee.
