Shell halts construction on biofuel plant

Shell has announced that they will not continue with the construction of a biofuels plant in Pernis, Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
Richard Zwinkels, General Manager Shell Energy and Chemicals Park Rotterdam, stated in a Linkedin post that: “Market dynamics and expected construction costs ultimately make the project insufficiently competitive for us to meet our customers’ demand for affordable biofuels. We will continue to provide our customers with biofuels. We do this through our trading business, as we already do. We will continue the energy transition at our factories unabated. Because our mission remains intact: to make Pernis produce ever cleaner – with smart investments in energy efficiency, electrification, and CO2 reduction.”
