Valmet delivers an automation system for CO2 liquefaction plant

Valmet has received an order from Suomen Biovoima Oy to deliver a Valmet DNAe Distributed Control System (DCS) for a CO2 liquefaction plant at Auris Energia’s biogas plant in Mäntsälä, Finland.

It will be the first CO2 liquefaction plant of its kind built in Finland with this technology.

The project marks a concrete step forward in the green transition, enabling carbon capture and utilisation directly at a biogas plant. At Auris Energia’s plant, CO2 is generated as a byproduct of biogas production. Instead of releasing CO2 into the atmosphere, Suomen Biovoima’s technology will capture, purify and liquefy it for reuse in industrial applications such as concrete production, where the CO2 is permanently bound into the building materials. By turning emissions into valuable raw material, the solution supports circular economy and helps reduce the carbon footprint of energy production.

By capturing and utilising CO2, we can turn emissions into a valuable product while improving overall efficiency.
