Due to growing consumer needs and digitalisation, the transportation of people and goods is undergoing unprecedentedly rapid change. Concurrently, the logistics sector is increasingly faced with demands for reducing emissions. For example, earlier this month, the European Commission proposed legislation that would require carbon dioxide emissions from heavy traffic to be cut by 30% by the year 2030.

With these needs in mind, Neste and Telia are joining forces to develop solutions for the logistics needs of their customers.

The first outcome of the cooperation is the Neste SmartTruck service for heavy traffic. It allows companies to use a single interface to access numerous applications, including fuel consumption optimisation, tachograph data transfer automation, and mobile refueling for professional drivers. The Neste app makes refueling faster and safer, as no separate cards or cash are needed for payment. The service also includes GPS positioning, which helps with fleet management, planning, and the driving itself.

“There has been a lot of talk about the revolution in transportation, and it’s happening here and now. Our business customers have been waiting for new solutions that both reduce emissions and improve business efficiency. Through collaboration with Telia, we can offer an ever broader range of services to our customers,” tells Mika Hyötyläinen, Vice President of Marketing for Marketing and Services business area at Neste.

“With new technologies and business models, we can jointly develop responsible solutions for many industries. The challenges with transportation are so great that strategic and deep-rooted cooperation between the various parties is needed to resolve them. Neste is a natural partner for us with regard the transport solutions of the future that we plan to be involved in,” says Telia’s Head of IoT Sales, Kalle Mehtola.
