Fire breaks out at Baytown olefins plant

On Wednesday 31 July, a fire broke out at ExxonMobil Corp.’s Baytown, Texas, US olefins facility, confirmed Plant Manager Jason Duncan at a press conference.

Mr Duncan confirmed that 37 workers were being treated for minor burns and injuries.

Reuters later reported that the fire had been brought under control, after emergency crews worked to extinguish the blaze into the evening.

In a statement, ExxonMobil said that an investigation into the incident is underway and that the company is cooperating with all relevant government agencies and local stakeholders.
