Vietjet has pioneered using sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) produced by Petrolimex Aviation in Vietnam on its flights.

The signing ceremony of the cooperation agreement between Vietjet and Petrolimex Aviation took place on 20 August 2025 in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, attended by the Director General of the Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority, Uong Viet Dung; Chairman of Petrolimex, Pham Van Thanh; CEO of Petrolimex Aviation, Nguyen Van Hoc; Vietjet CEO Dinh Viet Phuong; Vietjet Standing Vice President to Viet Thang and Vietjet Vice President CFO Ho Ngoc Yen Phuong, along with partners and guests.

For the first time in Vietnam, Petrolimex Aviation has blended and provided the first 1200 m³ of SAF for Vietjet flights, marking an important milestone in the production and use of sustainable aviation fuel in Vietnam. Petrolimex Aviation also provided the proof of sustainability (PoS) in accordance with the ISCC EU standard, ensuring the fuel meets stringent international sustainability and CO2 emission reduction standards.

Uong Viet Dung, Director General of the Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority, remarked: “The launch of SAF is not only commercially significant but also strategically important, laying the foundation for a sustainable domestic SAF supply chain, meeting international market requirements, and encouraging cooperation among airlines, fuel suppliers, regulatory agencies, and financial institutions to expand SAF usage in Vietnam.”

Speaking at the event, Pham Van Thanh, a member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Party Committee, and Chairman of Petrolimex, stated: “Petrolimex has proactively invested in research and mastered the technology to blend SAF at the Nha Be Oil Depot. We are also the first company in Vietnam to import SBC – hydrocarbons synthesised from biologically renewable materials for SAF production. This success demonstrates the group’s strong commitment to the green transition, supporting the government, airlines, and society at large in driving sustainable development.”

Vietjet Standing Vice President to Viet Thang said: “Today's agreement between Vietjet and Petrolimex Aviation underscores our commitment to green and sustainable development goals. With a total of 576 modern aircraft on order, Vietjet’s green fleet using SAF will contribute significantly to reducing emissions, protecting the environment, pioneering the use of clean fuel, and advancing our nation’s aspirations for growth in the global integration era.”

On 17 October 2024, Vietjet partnered with Petrolimex Aviation to conduct the first two flights being fueled SAF in Vietnam. Produced from renewable and sustainable sources such as used cooking oil, agricultural by-products, wood biomass, and urban waste, SAF can help reduce carbon emissions by up to 80% compared to traditional fuels. It meets stringent international aviation standards and is safe for commercial operations.
