The advanced emission control system plays a central role in Covestro’s Nitric Acid Unit Climate Initiative (NAUCI), equating to an annual abatement of approximately 154 000 t of carbon dioxide equivalent. This underscores the growing demand for effective, turnkey solutions that directly address industrial emissions.
Nadja Håkansson, CEO of thyssenkrupp Uhde, commented: “Reducing greenhouse gases from industrial production is one of the fastest and most impactful ways to cut emissions. We are proud to support Covestro’s strong climate commitments once more with proven technology that delivers measurable results and minimises emissions.”
“It is projects such as NAUCI that will help us achieve our ambitious emissions reduction targets in the long-term, and I am confident that our continued efforts will drive even greater success as we work towards achieving climate neutrality by 2035,” said Victor Ortega, Baytown site Manager and Senior Vice President of Performance Materials and Operations North America.
thyssenkrupp Uhde’s EnviNOx system has already been implemented at multiple Covestro facilities worldwide, including its Shanghai site, which has also seen drastic emissions reductions due to this collaboration. The Baytown installation reaffirms both companies' commitment to sustainable industrial transformation. Here, the solution was integrated into the tail gas system of the nitric acid production process (tertiary abatement) by combining tail gas treatment with an additional N20 reduction measure implemented below the ammonia oxidation gauzes (secondary abatement).
