Honeywell has announced that Mustang Gas Products, LLC used Ortloff GSP plus Retro-FlexTM technology from Honeywell UOP to improve recovery of ethane and propane at its Dover Hennessey cryogenic gas processing facility in central Oklahoma, US.
The Mustang plant marked the first global application of the Retro-Flex process, a new retrofit technology that improves propane recovery in both ethane recovery and ethane rejection modes for existing gas subcooled process (GSP) cryogenic plants, without requiring additional compression. At the current operating conditions, the facility is exceeding design recovery levels recovering 95% of ethane and 100% of propane in ethane recovery mode, and rejecting more than 95% of ethane while recovering more than 99% propane in ethane rejection mode.
“With the use of Ortloff GSP, Mustang achieved greater ethane production, while the Retro-Flex technology provided more operating flexibility in ethane recovery and rejection modes,” said Ben Owens, Vice President and General Manager of UOP’s Gas Processing Technologies business. “The conversion of Dover Hennessey from a refrigerated JT – or Joule-Thomson – plant to a GSP plant as part of the Retro-Flex retrofit improved liquid product recoveries in both modes of operation.”
Ortloff was acquired by UOP in 2018, bringing its expertise in the recovery of high-value natural gas liquids (NGLs) from natural gas streams. Ortloff technologies are specialised to maximise NGL Recovery, providing customers with high operational flexibility and greater returns on plant investments. Ortloff also specialises in unique technologies for removing sulfur from refinery feedstocks, ensuring greater plant reliability and operability over the refinery lifecycle.
