The ceremony was attended by representatives of KMG PetroChem and MAIRE's subsidiary TECNIMONT, which leads the consortium developing the project, as well as Kazakh government officials.
The project's scope of work includes engineering, procurement, construction, and start-up. TECNIMONT will be primarily responsible for engineering, procurement, and start-up. Completion is scheduled for the 1Q29. The gas processed by the GSC will feed the Silleno petrochemical plant (Phase 2 - polyethylene production), currently under construction by TECNIMONT in the same region.
KMG PetroChem is a wholly owned subsidiary of KazMunayGas, Kazakhstan’s national energy company, and is responsible for the country’s petrochemical projects. Both the Tengiz GSC and Silleno are pioneering initiatives in the country in terms of scale and technology. The GSC is designed to recover at least 98% ethane from dry gas, while the Silleno plant will supply high-quality petrochemical products.
Alessandro Bernini, CEO of MAIRE, commented: “We are honoured to participate in this initiative with KMG Petrochem. The Tengiz GSC represents a strategic milestone that strengthens our long-term commitment to Kazakhstan and Central Asia as a whole. This project not only highlights our technological and execution capabilities, but also accelerates Kazakhstan's industrial development through next-generation, large scale gas and petrochemical plants.”
