VTTI, a global leader in energy infrastructure, has announced the launch of VIDA bioenergy, a newly formed subsidiary that is 100% owned by VTTI, dedicated to transforming biomass into renewable energy.
VIDA bioenergy will operate independently from the rest of VTTI, under the leadership of CEO, Lars Boetje. This will allow the company to move with flexibility and speed to meet the specific needs of the markets it serves. The company is committed to providing clean energy products such as biomethane, biogenic CO2, and organic fertilizer, supporting the decarbonisation of buildings, heavy transport, and industrial heat.
“VIDA bioenergy represents a significant step forward in our commitment to sustainability and innovation,” said Guy Moeyens, CEO of VTTI. “By focusing on renewable natural gas (RNG), we are not only addressing the urgent need for cleaner energy but also creating new opportunities for growth and job creation in the bioenergy sector.”
The European biogas market is booming; the draft National Energy and Climate Plans of Member States already shows strong commitment, with production projections totalling 14 billion m3 of biomethane by 2030, with potential to produce up to 40 billion m3. Looking further ahead into 2040, the EU has the potential to produce 101 billion m3 of sustainable biomethane, supplying 30 – 40% of Europe’s gas needs, The EU’s Green Deal aims for a climate-neutral continent by 2050, fuelling this expansion. VIDA Bioenergy is poised to play a crucial role in this transformation, leveraging its expertise and strategic locations to lead the way in renewable energy.
