Global Hydrogen Review Spotlight with Atlas Copco

Published by
Hydrocarbon Engineering,

In this Spotlight interview, we're joined by Daniel Patrick, Market Segment Manager for LNG & Hydrogen, Atlas Copco Gas and Process, and Alfonso Peschiera, VP, Business Line Manager, Atlas Copco.

Daniel and Alfono discuss the content of their article, ‘Hydrogen mobility: ready for deployment’, that is available to read here.

The article demonstrates that hydrogen infrastructure – and especially hydrogen compression and liquefaction machinery – is ready for deployment today, and will be central to developing a successful hydrogen ecosystem.

In this interview, we consider some of the biggest technical hurdles in connecting production and end-use at scale.

We also explore the benefits of liquid hydrogen, and discuss what is special about the turbomachinery behind hydrogen liquefaction.

Alfonso guides us through what design considerations can help to ensure high uptime and low maintenance for reciprocating and/or screw compressors, and Daniel explains what lessons we can learn from LNG liquefaction or shipping that are transferable to hydrogen.

We conclude by considering what success will look like for hydrogen mobility over the next five to ten years.
