BIO congratulates Gevo on successful plant startup

James C. Greenwood, President and CEO of the Biotechnology Industry Organisation (BIO) attended the opening ceremony of Gevo’s new demonstration scale biorefinery in Silsbee, Texas, on 25th August.

At the ribbon cutting ceremony he commented that ‘industrial biotechnology companies such as Gevo show the true scope and reach of American innovation and ingenuity.’

‘Looking at this operation, you can see that this industry...has the potential to help transform our future; to lessen our dependence on foreign petroleum; to help reinvigorate American industry and manufacturing; and to create good paying American jobs in Silsbee, Texas, and in hardworking communities across the country’.

‘Gevo’s new biorefinery is showing us the role that industrial biotech can play in a renaissance in America’s chemical industry. It is showing us how American companies can compete and capture more of our share of the US$ 2.4 trillion clean energy market and the US$ 3.7 trillion global chemicals market.’

EPA finalises Renewable Fuel Standard for 2013

The EPA last week issued its final rule for the 2013 Renewable Fuel Standard program year, setting a 6 million gal target for cellulosic biofuels use in 2013.

According to Bernstein Research, the rapid growth of renewable energy in the US will displace some gas from the country’s generation mix.
